Q&A

Q: Where are you employed? What is your Title?

Director of Playing Member Services at the Illinois Junior Golf Association

Q: What is your favorite part of your job?

Working with youth ages 14-18

Q: What do you consider to be your most valuable contribution to your organization for which you work?

I am responsible for the procurement of golf course that over 2,200 of our members get to enjoy throughout the summer in tournament golf.

Q: Given your career path, where do you see yourself in 10 years?

A senior tournament or operations director for a PGA Section or State Golf Association.

Q: Do you have any words of advice/recommendations? a. for undergrads still searching for a major—would you recommend RST and why?, b. for the undergrads currently in the program, c. for the senior currently looking for his/her first position.

A) Pick a major based on a career that you will ENJOY. Research the possible careers that graduates of your program hold. But always remember that your degree is not an end all, be all, but more importantly a certificate that shows you put in the time and effort to obtain a rewarding career.
B) Start marketing yourself EARLY. Volunteer and get involved in as much as you can. The more in-depth your resume, the better. Take on internships and network through them. Your network is WAY more important than your college GPA.
C) Same as above. Network, network, network. I can’t stress the importance of this enough. Employers would rather have an experienced 3.0 student than one with no experience and a 3.8 GPA.
