Graduate Program Overview
The Department of Recreation, Sport and Tourism offers two graduate degrees: Master of Science (M.S.) and
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
The graduate program is designed to provide an education in theoretical, behavioral, planning and management perspectives directed toward a range of
specific leisure interests. Core requirements in the foundation of leisure and research methods in leisure apply to all levels of the graduate program and are
prerequisites for the Ph.D. program. The program is designed to help you develop the knowledge and skills appropriate for career and professional opportunities,
whether you are situated in university teaching and research; government agencies; private enterprise; community, sporting and recreational facilities; or public
industries. Because your interests may change, course work is designed so that you can readily accommodate this change of direction in your studies. Flexibility
is also built into the program so that you can tailor your program of study to your individual interests, talents and goals.
