Kendra Clark
Q&A
Q. Where are you employed? What is your Title?
Special Olympics Florida; Special Events Fundraising Manager
Q. What are your daily responsibilities?
Each day is different. During the heavy, fall fundraising season; I meet with committee members, sponsors, and
visit event sites. During slower times, I develop potential new sponsors and research other non-profit fundraising
events to see if anything can be implemented with our agency.
Q. What role do you play in selecting and implementing fundraising special events for Special Olympics Florida?
All fundraisers must go through me. I'm located in the state office, and I am responsible for approving all county events.
Any event that raises more than $100,000 is my direct responsibility. I also assist with overseeing and forming committees to
deal with specific event tasks.
Q. Are you responsible for the marketing for the special events that you help to plan?
The agency has a marketing department that primarily handles press releases and media relations. I design and oversee
production of collateral material so that it meets our needs and standards.
Q. How do you and your organization interact with the local community?
We have more than 15,000 athletes participating in 26 different events, so there is always something for participant and
family involvement. We do require a lot of community support both in financing and services.
Q. What is your favorite part of your position, and why?
I enjoy the freedom–I am my own boss, I am able to set my hours and work schedule. Additionally, I have creative
freedom to create events to my specifications and design collateral pieces such as brochures, fliers, banners, and logos.
Q. What makes you a good fit for the sport industry?
I love being out and about. I am a very active person, so it was a natural fit for me to do something that gets me out of
the office, allows me to see different scenery and to work with a variety of people. It’s nice to be able to work, doing
something you love.
