What are your general impressions of the RST department and your studies?

My impressions of the Department of Recreation, Sport and Tourism have been wonderful! It is an amazing program that has helped me to develop a passion for the field of leisure. The faculty and staff are outstanding. They go out of their way to make you feel welcome in the program and encourage you to succeed.

What has been your best/most interesting/most beneficial experience at the U of I?

My best experience at the University of Illinois has been getting involved—joining clubs, working out at the Activities and Recreation Center, attending movie night on the Quad, volunteering. They have all been once-in-a-lifetime opportunities that I’ll cherish forever.

What extracurricular activities and student organizations have you been involved with?

I’ve been an active member of Tau Sigma National Honor Society for transfer students, which has allowed me to meet new people and to get involved in the community. I highly recommend taking advantage of the many student organizations we have here.

What are your post-graduation plans?

My post-graduation plans are to hopefully get an internship with either a local park district or one back home in the Chicago area. I look forward to pursuing my career in the field of recreation, and to possibly returning to graduate school later.

What do you like to do for fun?

For fun, I love to do anything outdoors—camping, biking, hiking, running. I also enjoy live music and comedy. But nothing beats a movie night at home!

Why would you recommend the College of Applied Health Sciences and RST to others?

I would absolutely recommend the RST program to others. Until I was in it, I never realized how important the study of leisure and recreation really is. It is everything we do, it’s who we are as people, and it is out very well-being!
