The Office of Recreation and Park Resources
Recreation and Park District managers must consider all these issues and more in planning and developing effective programs, facilities, and
services. But how do they collect all this information from all the potential users of recreation and park resources?
They turn to the team in the Office of Recreation and Park Resources at the University of Illinois.
As the primary service unit of the Department of Recreation, Sport and Tourism in the College of Applied Health Sciences, the focus of the Office of Recreation and
Park Resources (ORPR) is to help build healthy communities through educational programs, applied research, and direct services.
ORPR partners with University of Illinois Extension, the Illinois Association of Park Districts, the Illinois Park and Recreation Association,
and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to provide top-tier services to recreation and park district staff, communities and organizations in Illinois
that are interested in improving the quality of life and health in their communities.
ORPR offers such services as community surveys, program and facility assessments, and staff development and education. Among the topics
addressed in workshops, seminars, and classes are parks and recreation planning, fundraising, customer service, and wellness programs.
You can be part of the team!
Both undergraduate and graduate students may have the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of parks and recreation management issues
and field research techniques by working with ORPR, either through the Department of Recreation, Sport and Tourism undergraduate internship
program, or as graduate research assistants.
